Accountants Can Drive Sustainable Economic Growth And Development

Mr. Oheneba Kwabena Kena, Founder of Young Professional Accountants Network Ghana said accountants have an important role to play in the sustainability of Ghana’s economy.

Mr. Kena added that there are a lot of young talented accountants having a strong desire to make a positive impact on the ailing economy of the country using their rich knowledge and experience.

He said, the fortunes of this country can be restored by ensuring that accountants gives detailed information in their financial report and sharing ideas to help improve and grow economies.

He stated that, “75% of accountants working in companies have a lot of skills which are not put into use.”

The Young Chartered Accountant said, it is an important time for all accountants to merge together to digest and scrutinize the budget, share ideas on critical socio economic issues.

"It is time for all accountants to act with integrity and objectivity .Accountants should ensure that useful financial reporting is provided,” Mr. Kena indicated.

According to him, the Young Professional Accountants Network Ghana, which was formally inaugurated some few days ago, believes that these hard times offers the right opportunity for accountants to intervene and focus not only on their organizational goals but also the economy and society as a whole.

Mr. Oheneba Kwabena Kena, urge auditors to provide detailed and timely information to shareholders and stakeholders so as to make critical decisions at every point in time of the economy.

In 2014, Young Professional Accountants Network Ghana had a survey on the public perception about accountants.

The first group, according to him, said, “Accountants are debit and credit masters and the answer from the second group caught my attention -Accountants work and stay late in the night crunching, adding and subtracting figures to obtain a balance.”

He said, “Accountants in the 21st Century are not just debit and credit masters however, they are the business leaders, strategy drivers and transformational leaders of our economy and society.

Mr. Oheneba Kwabena Kena noted that as business leaders and advisers, Accountants have a key role to play in solving the economic crisis of the country.
