Manwe, Nov 26, GNA - Azumah Resources Ghana Limited, an Australian Gold exploring company operating in the Upper West Region is supporting communities within its concessional area to undertake sanitation activities.

The support forms part of the company's social services to help promote good health and enhances higher productivity among the people who are predominantly farmers.

At Manwe in the Wa East District, staff of the company participated actively with the community members spending several hours to clean up choked gutters, overgrown bushes and the entire town to give it a good outlook and serene environment.

Mr Solomon Dery, Community Relations Officer at Azumah Resources Ghana, said it is the company's objective to build strong relations with the community members to benefit from the operations of company.

He said the company was working hard to educate and support the people in the areas of health, agriculture and sports to unearth talents for national development.

Mr. Dery said the company had supported some of the communities to repair their broken down boreholes to ensure that potable water was available throughout the years for the people.

Mr. Abudu Fuseini, Assembly Member of Manwe expressed worries about the indiscriminate dumping of garbage in the valleys and streams thereby polluting water source which served the communities.

He appealed to the district assembly to provide refuse containers to help the community manage its sanitation challenges.

Mr. Fuseini said the community members had come to consensus and had put aside the last Friday of every month as a sanitation day in the community.

He said the community members had realised that the National Sanitation Day had been tagged with political colours and was not getting the needed patronage hence the setting up of their own day to clean up the community.

'The National Sanitation Day has been labeled with politics and we want to put aside our own day to clean up our community where everybody would be fully committed to our course,' he said.

He said communal spirit which was the trademark of the community in the past had dwindled and that the community members were working hard to rekindle it to improve on their health, and also undertake development projects.

Mr.Fuseini urged the assembly to do well and provide containers to the communities to help reduce the incidents of waterborne diseases among the people.
