Koforidua, Nov. 26, GNA - Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF), a Non-Governmental Organisation has organised a sensitization workshop for stakeholders in child welfare to equip them on the new Child and Family Welfare Policy at Koforidua.

Ms Frederica Owuani, Programmes Head for Justice Administration at the Department of Social Development, Headquarters, said the child and family welfare policy seeks to outline the roles of stakeholders in juvenile justice, child welfare and protection.

She said the policy tasks Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) and Civil Society Organisations (CSO) to complement the effort of government by providing preventive services at all levels within the family framework.

Mr Fredrick Jojo Kofi, Programmes Assistant, Youth Bridge Foundation, said as part of efforts to build the capacity of the various stakeholders, YBF was rolling a project dubbed, 'Securing the future of young people in Ghana through improved Juvenile Justice Administration', being funded by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).

The project seeks to organize refresher training on child-related policies and jurisprudence as well as offer platform for key actors to share lessons and best practices to enhance their understanding of issues of children's rights.

Participants were drawn from the Departments of Social Welfare, Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Police Service, Alternative Dispute Resolution Groups, Ghana Education Service, National Commission for Civic Education, Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Assembly Members from the New Juaben and Suhum Municipalities.
