Security in the Ho Municipality will be boosted because of the inauguration of a new police station.

The new police station, which was constructed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of 'From Home' Company Limited, Joe Ayivor, who is also a philanthropist, is located at Sokode-Bagble, near Ho.

The police station is expected to serve various communities and also improve police-public relations in the Ho Municipality.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Ayivor, who is popularly referred to as 'Afe Lotto,' said he constructed the police station after realizing that the stretch of road between Anyirawase in the Ho West District and Ho was bushy and had no police installation to safeguard lives and property.

To this end, many armed robbers and burglaries operated along that stretch of road and also turned the premises of certain schools into a meeting place.

Armed robbers recently battered security personnel at a Total filling at Sokode-Bagble earlier this year and stole several thousands of Ghana cedis.

He said the ultramodern facility has a charge office, station officer's office, male and female cells with modern toilet and bathrooms.

The offices have been furnished with computer, furniture, air-conditioners, television, refrigerator, potable water with a reservoir, among others.

Mr. Ayivor, who was recently awarded by the Ghana Tourist Authority for his support for tourism in the region, thanked the Sokode Traditional area, particularly the Chief of Sokode-Bagble, Togbe Korku Adrah VII for the support.

The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, on behalf of the Ghana Police Service and the Inspector General of Police, COP John Kudalor, lauded the gesture and urged others to emulate his shining example.

He said Ho has expanded tremendously and therefore welcomed all forms of assistance from the public to boost security in the municipality and the entire Volta region.

The Deputy Regional Minister, Francis Ganyaglo said the construction of the police station was timely considering the increasing population in the municipality.

He urged individuals, groups and communities to initiate some development projects since government alone cannot develop the entire country.

The chairman of the occasion, Togbe Korku Adra VII of Atanve Traditional Area, stressed that 'no police officer is corrupt, but it is society that has become corrupt.'

He appealed to the citizenry to be law-abiding and desist from all forms of corrupt practices.
