MTN, Ghana’s leading telecommunications service provider has been adjudged the best Public Relations organization in the telecommunications sector in Ghana at the 4th Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Excellence Awards and 8th Presidential Dinner dance held in Accra.

MTN Ghana won the highly competitive award as a result of arigorous integrated communications approach to the company’s Internet Festival campaign, dubbed “iFest.” The Internet Festival is organized annually by MTN to create awareness and increase mobile Internet usage in Ghana. .

A citation read before the presentation of the award stated, “With the integrated communications strategy, MTN adopted the festival approach to launch its communications using various media platforms to sufficiently educate stakeholders to solicit their fullest collaboration.”“The winning entry was able to achieve its objectives by creating greater public understanding of its internet offers, how to maximize its benefits and also increased its data subscribers and revenues…”

iFest, which is a month-long activation initiated in the year 2013, has been recognized as one of the major campaigns that have contributed to making MTN the leading data service provider in the telecommunications industry.

Commenting on the award, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN, Mrs. Cynthia Lumor said,“the award is an affirmation ofone of MTN’s strategic focus areas -- to Create and Manage Stakeholder Value”.

She said, “we realized that the number of smartphones on the network was increasing, however, many of the users of these smartphones were not using theInternet, probably because they were underestimating the limitless possibilities available to them.iFest was created as an engagement platform to reach out to these customers using various integrated communications strategies,and we achieved the results.”

“We appreciate the recognition given us by the Institute Of Public Relations,and we remain committed as an organization to using communications to create value for our organization”, she added.

MTN dedicated the award to all MTN stakeholders across the country, including the media.

In a message from the Chair of the Professional Awards Committee, Mrs Rose-Margaret Kpodo (APR) stated, “The Public Relations Excellence Awards was organized to promote professionalism in the practice of Public Relations in Ghana through the award of outstanding practice in the various facets of the profession.”

Mrs Elaine Sam APR, in her welcome remarks promised the Institute would continue to maintain a high standard of professionalism. She used the opportunity to congratulate all winners.
