Aflao (V/R), Nov. 25, GNA - Five men have been arrested for stealing mobile phones during the the recent Hogbetsotso-Za (festival) and placed before the Aflao Circuit Court.

They are Damelda Ayetey, trader, James Amenyo, teacher, Ben Gadeka, porter, Solomon Dotsey, barber and Abrahan Keen Klutsey, a caterer.

They all pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and stealing.

Also in the dock with them was Mary Anani, a trader, who pleaded not guilty to possessing some contents suspected Indian hemp.

The Court, presided over by Mr Ali Baba Abature, remanded them in police custody till November 27.

Prosecuting Detective Police Sergeant Michael Akemo said at about 0600 hours on November 7, this year, military personnel on 'Operation Calm Life duty' in Aflao, were informed that some boys who stole phones in Anloga and its environs during the recent festival, were heading towards their hide-out at Akligokope, with their booty.

He said the team proceeded there and arrested Ayetey, Amenyo, Gadeka and Klutsey.

Mr Akemo said a search on Ayetey and Amenyo revealed 12 different types of phones on them, while a further search in a neighbouring compound house, where Mary Anani lived, revealed a blue bag containing 330 pieces of wrapped dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp.

Mary Anani denied ownership of the bag and its contents.

He said after the conclusion of the festival, many people made reports on the loss of their mobile phones as they partook in the festival.
