GHACEM Limited has been adjudged the overall best industrial company of the year at the 4th Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) awards held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra.

The company was also adjudged the best company in the metals, building and construction sector.

The AGI Ghana Industry award seeks to reward companies that have excelled in various areas of industry in the year under review.

The citation accompanying the award paid tribute to the company's sterling contributions to the economy.

It mentioned the company's Corporate Social Responsibility, Cement Foundation, which gives free bags of cement to support infrastructural development in education and health institutions in deprived areas of the country.

 It also cited the company's role as an environmentally minded entity that ensures the promotion of biodiversity at its mining site.

Jorn Johansen, Acting Managing Director of the company, led top management staff to receive the award.

In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to AGI for recognizing the company's hard work and pledged to continue to produce quality cement.

Speaking to the media, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, the Strategy and Corporate Affairs Director of the company, who doubles as the AGI Chairman for Made in Ghana goods committee, reiterated that his outfit deserved to win the award.

'We have for the past 48 years consistently produced quality cement, employed a lot of Ghanaians and used local content in production.'
