NDC Primaries: Friends of Spio-Garbrah Congratulate President And NDC
25.11.2015 LISTEN

On behalf of the leadership of the Friends of Spio- Garbrah, we extend our warm congratulations to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his awesome 95.10% endorsement at the party’s novelty primaries. We also wish to congratulate all Parliamentary Aspirants in all the constituencies for the level of tolerance exhibited before, during and after the elections.

As a group which has existed for more than ten years, we have consistently supported previous party leaders, including supporting Prof John Attah Mills for the 2008 elections and President John Mahama in 2012

While we note with concern spots of incongruities which are normal with every electoral process we are excited to have received reliable reports from our branches of Spio-Garbrah Fan clubs from the ten (10) regions of Ghana and also in many of the constituencies that the elections were generally peaceful at all centers.

Our commendation goes to the national, regional, constituency, ward and branch executives who ensured that the enabling environment for the Electoral Commission to conduct the maiden universal suffrage of party delegates with such an enviable success.

To the ever loyal NDC partisans who turned out in their numbers to endorse His Excellency, The President with a 95.10% and to choose their preferred Parliamentary candidates, you have proven yet again the democratic credentials of the NDC party as the only true social democrats in Ghana’s political landscape.

The challenge is now for all in the NDC fraternity to accept that in whichever way the Parliamentary primaries have gone, the ultimate winner is the NDC as a larger party. We must remain united in diversity to help President Mahama continue changing lives and transforming Ghana.

To this end, we wish to make a clarion call to all who may not have been personally successful at the primaries to join elected parliamentary aspirants in order to form a formidable team for the NDC in all constituencies as we together surge forward to the 2016 elections. Having completed the party’s primaries successfully, our collective attention must now turn to winning the Amenfi West by-election slated for Dec. 15.

Our extraordinary sacrifices to win the seat will serve as a fitting salute to our departed Member of Parliament of the constituency, Hon. John Gyetuah, who died on October 13, 2015. We count on the Western Regional Branch of the Friends of Spio Garbrah who are already on the ground to maximize their efforts in ensuring a resounding victory for the party on Dec. 15.

We also wish to assure His Excellency John Mahama of our determination to defend his person against attacks from opposition NPP elements whose only wish is to see Ghana retrogress just as their party has descended to the abyss. We must all be mindful of the attempt by the NPP to disorganize the focus of the President and the NDC and to resist swiftly any attempt to vilify and bring the Presidency to disrepute.

Above all, the excitement which greeted the President during the changing lives and transforming Ghana tour across the country combined with the 95.10% overwhelming endorsement by party delegates and opinion leaders for his second-term bid has given us the renewed confidence that the NDC could attain even better results than the projected 57% of valid votes to be cast in the 2016 Presidential elections.

Let us also commend the dedication of all the Regional Branches of the Friends of Spio-Garbrah for the instrumental roles they played in availing themselves to receive the President and his entourage in their respective regions across the country. We thank the various Friends of Spio and Spio-Garbrah Fan Clubs for coming out in their thousands wearing T-shirts with pro-Mahama messages,

It is our greatest hope that such sacrifices by the Friends of Spio- Garbrah in the 10 regions and in hundreds of constituencies around the country will be replicated and intensified as we seek to win extra swing votes from the disillusioned members of the opposition who have lost confidence in their party leadership.

We again reiterate our renewed gratitude and congratulations to the leadership of the party, Mr. Kofi Portuphy, the Vice Presidents, General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketsia, and their able lieutenants Director of Elections, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Organiser Kofi Adams, Deputy General Secretaries Koku Anyidoho and George Lawson, and all others who ensured a successful process leading to the primaries. Yet again the NDC has set the pace for the tenets of unprecedented universal participatory democracy!!

Eye Zu, Eye Za
