Three police officers from the Tesano Police station MTTU on Wednesday, 18th November, 2015 publicly assaulted a motorist in the full view of pedestrians and other motorists alike on the Abofu road in Accra.
Two of the officers were identified as Inspector Yaw Adjei and Inspector Ampofo. According to eye witnesses, a middle aged man, driving a black Hyundai Verna, was pulled over by the officers during a routine patrol and within a few minutes of interacting with the driver, all three officers proceeded to forcefully handcuff him whiles he was still in his car and dragged him out of the car into the street.
The officers led by Inspector Yaw Adjei then proceeded to assault the driver, with Inspector Ampofo slapping him more than once whiles dragging him on the floor despite pleas from the disgusted pedestrians to cease with the abuse.
The officers are reported to have threatened to plant weed [Indian hemp] into the driver’s car to accuse him if he resisted them in any way.
Eventually, the three officers dragged their poor victim into their patrol car and continued to blatantly assault their victim before driving off, supposedly to the Tesano Police station to lock him up.
The Tesano MTTU Commander was unavailable to comment but we will continue to follow up on the story.
