The police have apprehended four suspected criminals who are believed to be part of a syndicate that snatches vehicles from their owners, at Achimota and its environs in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspects are Kofi Kyereme, 23 years old; Bernard Sackey, 41; Jalil Iddrisu, 23 and William Yaw Osei, 35.

They were alleged to have snatched a Nissan saloon car from its owner after snatching a Mercedes Benz and changing its registration number.

When a search was conducted on them, an Iphone belonging to one of their victims was retrieved together with a locally manufactured pistol loaded with life ammunition as well as a machete.

Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Accra Regional Police Commander, said the suspects in October this year snatched a Mercedes Benz saloon car from its owner in Accra and later drove it to a house at Sakumono, near Tema, where the registration number was replaced with a fake one.

They again moved to a house where they allegedly robbed a female victim of various items, including a wrist watch, mobile phones and other assorted personal effects.

While escaping, the suspects snatched a Nissan saloon car and made away with it.

In the course of the operation, according to DCOP Yohuno, they were about to slash the victim who had earlier resisted giving out her car keys, with a machete when neighbours drew the attention of other people with the security alarm devise which then scared them off.

The four paddies drove the Nissan to Lapaz with the intention of continuing their robbery expedition when a police patrol team spotted them and gave them a hot chase.

Sensing danger, the suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle at Tabora and bolted.

They then hired a taxi with the intention of going to Amasaman – their hide-out – but were arrested at the Achimota Neoplan area.

They would be sent to court soon for prosecution.
