A 29-year-old man resident of Anyaa, a suburb of Accra in the Ga-South Municipality was on Wednesday sentenced to seven years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for defiling a 14 -year- old Junior High School (JHS) form one student.

The convict, Eric Quashie, alias Papa, a carpenter, had a sexual relationship with the 14 year- girl for almost a year; the girl got pregnant and delivered a baby girl on the 7th June, 2015.

He pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and begged the court for consideration but was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Inspector Judith Asante told the court on Wednesday, November 11 this year, that Eric Quashie had been dating the 14-year-old, who lives with her mother in the same town against her mother’s approval.

However, after the girl got pregnant, both families reached a consensus to have Quashie take care of the baby and help the 14- year -old further her education but Eric Quashie failed to honour his part of the agreement.

Coupled with hardship and her inability to continually take care of the baby, the 14 –year- old on Friday 30th October, 2015 walked to the Anyaa Police Station to report the man and pleaded with officers to “let the man sign a bond of good behavior”.

Inspector Judith Asante explained that when the case was investigated it came to light that Eric Quashie started having an affair with the girl when she was 12 but failed to take care of the victim and her baby.

Passing judgment, Her Ladyship Abena Adekin Doku , who presided over the court, advised Quashie to be of good behavior in prison and reform but jailed him for seven years.
