13.11.2015 LISTEN

The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency, Paa Kwasi Amissah Arthur, has inaugurated the Obuasi Horsey Lorry Park Terminal and cut the sod for the construction of Kunka Market Complex.

The long awaited lorry terminal which has been in the books of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly to help do away with the unnecessary traffic jam and decongestion in the central business district has finally been realized.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi whose earnest priority is to help the people of Obuasi buy and sell with ease promised the Horsey Park Terminal will be constructed and completed by the end of the year and truly he has fulfilled it.

The terminal was initiated by the late De-Graft Kwame Adjei during the PNDC era from 1987 to 1997. Hon. George Adu Mensah, the District Chief Executive who took over in 1999 – 2000 could not complete it.

After the exit of the NDC Government in 2000 when the NPP took over, less effort was made for its completion.

Finally, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi, serving his 2nd year in office has completed the project, ready to serve the people of Obuasi.

The Adansihene and the Vice President after the inauguration proceeded to Kunka to cut the sod for the construction of a Market and Lorry Terminal at Kunka.

The Vice President, Amissah Arthur in a brief address tasked the people of Obuasi to keep the terminal in good shape, keep the place clean from filth and keep the maintenance culture seriously.

He tasked the Adansihene to keep a check on the maintenance of the place and report any unusual scene to the Municipal Chief Executive for immediate action to be taken.

He commended Hon. Richard Ofori Agyemang-Boadi for the good work done. Again, he asked the people of Obuasi to consider the developmental project initiated by the NDC Government and vote accordingly.

The Vice President, to grace the inaugural ceremony was in the company of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Peter Anarfi Mensah, the Minister for Local Government Hon. Collins Dauda, the Adansihene who represented Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Chairman for the occasion, Nana Opagyakotwere Bonsra Afriyie II, the NDC Regional Chairman Yaw Obimpeh, other Chief Executives from various Municipal and District Assemblies, the Media and a cross section of the public.

The inaugural ceremony was very spectacular following how long the people of Obuasi have waited for its completion and again how the inauguration has previously been postponed on two occasions.

‘‘I am happy to report today that I have carried out the assignment given me when I was appointed to come and serve my kinsmen’’ the Municipal Chief Executive stated.

He emphasized, no President has been able to spread development through the Municipality than the Mahama – led NDC administration. Listing some developmental projects from the provision of street lights, the construction of the 3,000 capacity dining hall with kitchen and administration block with library and staff common room, all at Christ the King Catholic Senior High School, among other various projects.

The chairman for the occasion, the Adansihene requested the government to help the traditional authority receive their fair share of their mineral royalties from 2013 till date.

He also asked social workers be employed to educate and take care of people on HIV/AIDS, Obuasi was last year rated 2nd in HIV/AIDS in the country.

The education on abstinence and condom use is not fruitful in the fight of the spread of the disease, he stated.
