Asanteman Association of Washington Metro D.C's Kente Dinner Dance .

Mr. Golash Opoku Adadey, the President of Asanteman Association of Washington D.C Metropolitan Area (DMV), disclosed that the Association has spent an amount of $12,000.00 to support brilliant but needy students in Ghana (particularly in Asante region) for four years of secondary education.

He stated "with your support, the association has been able to extend its reach and assist the youth.” Moving forward for the next few years, the Association will support building schools in the rural areas to address the “schools under trees” problem, primarily in Asanteman areas of Ghana.

The visionary leader also noted that the association was inspired by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, for his wise initiative for the establishment of the Otumfuo Education Fund, by also establishing the Asanteman Association Scholarship Fund.

In the spirit of unity geared towards contributing to the development of the Asante Kingdom, the Asanteman Association in various parts of the United States hold annual gatherings or dinner fundraisers to generate funds for laudable projects in the Asante Kingdom.

One of such events was the Kente Dinner Dance by the Asanteman Association of Washington DC which was held at the Waterford Receptions in Springfield, Virginia to raise funds for the “schools under trees.”

The event began with the entrance of Taferebuo Nana Kofi Agyenim Boateng I, Nana Ama Achiaa, the Asantefuohene and Asantefuohemaa of Asanteman Association of Washington Metro D.C, They were joined by a retinue of chiefs and elders of the Washington D.C. metro area making a grand royal entrances dancing to the tune of Adowa and Kete drums exhibiting the rich culture of Ghana.

After the chiefs took their seats, Nana Antwi Bosiako, the Asantefuohene of Columbus, Ohio, Nana Osei Nsiah Piesie, the Asantefuohene of Cincinnati, Ohio were announced. The chiefs strolled in majestically dancing to the tune of Adowa to the admiration of the gathering.

Prayers were offered and the traditional linguist of the night poured libation to invoke the spirit of our ancestors asking for the blessings for a successful event.

Mr. Samuel Kwasi Agyeman, the immediate past President of the Asanteman Association, who chaired the event advised the members of the association to unite and do their best to contribute their quota toward the growth of the association.

He touted the achievements of the Association and commended the leadership for sustaining the gains this far. At the end of his speech Mr. Samuel Kwasi Agyeman made a generous contribution to the Association towards the Education Fund.

A cultural dance display by various dancers added color to the event. This prompted the chiefs to engage in a marathon traditional Adowa dance of their own.

Group Nduom, who were one of the major sponsors of the event, were given the opportunity to address the gathering and introduce various services the company offers for the benefit of Ghanaians in the diaspora which includes life insurance for families in Ghana, free foreign accounts, event planning, hospitality management and many others.

The well-organized event was very alive with a variety of high-life and hip-life music and the gathering were kept on their feet for hours dancing and socializing with each other till the curtain was drawn for the end of the event.
