A MEMBER of a notorious armed robbery syndicate, who allegedly engaged the Keta police and military patrol team in a shootout at Aflao in the Volta Region, has been arrested.

The robbers were said to have invaded the residence of a store proprietor at Adzabukope near Denu in the Keta Municipality.

In the process, a civilian was shot in the abdomen by the robbers and was sent to an undisclosed hospital in the region where he is responding to treatment.

On the same day, some volunteers in the area arrested Kwabla Bikor, 22, with fresh gunshot wounds on his right leg in a nearby village and sent him to a police station upon seeing the wounds on him, as the other gang members fled.

The suspect was also sent to the Keta South Municipal Hospital where he was treated and assisting police with investigations.

Kwabla Bikor was said to have confirmed during police interrogation to be a member of the armed robbery gang who attacked the store proprietor.

The robbers, who had allegedly been terrorizing residents of Keta and its surrounding communities, were said to have made away with six mobile phones, unspecified amounts of money and a bunch of keys.

Chief Superintendent Alex Wowolo, Keta Divisional Police Commander, told DAILY GUIDE that on October 27, 2015 at about 5: 30 am, police had information of a robbery attack and a team of police and military personnel were dispatched to the place.

Chief Superintendent Wowolo pointed out that the robbers, attempting to escape after the operation, met the security personnel at Torkor in Aflao along the Diamond Cement area and engaged them in a shootout.

He noted that the robbers managed to escape with gunshot wounds as three of the victim's mobile phones were retrieved.
