The Leader and Founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has said Ghana needs competent and visionary leaders who could turn the dwindling fortunes of the nation around.

He said various governments had over the years failed and put the country in a “rotten state”.

“We are the only party standing tall among the rest with the capacity to fix the mess, turn the rot around and propel the country into accelerated development, ” he said.

The PPP leader was speaking at the 2015 National Convention of the Party in Takoradi in the Western region on the theme: “Strategise to form Government in 2017.”

Dr Nduom expressed gratitude to the many followers of the Party adding: “I am gratified that people believe in the ideals of the Party, this is the time to change our pattern of votes and give the country better alternative.”

He called for the election of mayors for the metropolitan, municipal and districts assemblies.

“Go to UK, New York and Cape Town among others mayors are elected, why can’t we do so in Ghana?”

Nii Allotey Brew- Hammond, National Chairman of the Party encouraged Ghanaians to end poverty and economic hardship by voting the PPP into power.

“A vote for the PPP is choosing the right way, awake and vote for change,” he said.

He said the party would offer Ghanaians a government based on the principles of self-determination, social justice and national unity.

He said the party’s symbol- the Red Sun is an indication of the party’s steadfastness in uprooting corruption from the body politics of the country to reverse the vibrant economy through the use of government’s purchasing power.

Mr Brew-Hammond, said the PPP has more than 216 party offices and “our mission is to fulfill the wishes and needs of Ghanaians to become a developed nation”.

The PPP formed in 2012 with the slogan “Awake and Vote for Change” believes in the decentralisation system, hence the need to elect chief executive officers of the assemblies, separation of the Attorney Generals Department from the Ministry of Justice.

The party believes in free compulsory education from the basic to the senior high level, access to quality health care for every Ghanaian by restoring the state’s responsibility for a clean and healthy environment.
