PNC elects Executives for Upper West Region

Wa, Oct. 26, GNA - The Peoples' National Convention (PNC) at the weekend elected Upper West Regional Executives in Wa.

Seven of the positions went unopposed while four were keenly contested and voted for by 69 delegates out of a total expected number of 84 delegates.

Mr Iddrisu N. Saaed won the Regional Chairman position, by polling 40 votes to beat his only opponent, Alhaji Abu Yahaya who garnered 28 votes with one rejected ballot.

Ahmed Mansura Bugli polled 40 votes to be elected Regional Women Organiser over her only competitor Ibrahim Hidaya who also polled 29 votes.

The Regional Organiser position went to Mohammed A. Moomen for polling 43 votes as against 26 votes netted by his opponent Osman Razak.

Kandumah John polled 43 votes to grab the Regional Secretary position beating his opponent Adam A. Lanjimbu who managed 24 votes. Two votes were rejected.

Mr Hassan Ayariga, PNC Flag bearer for the 2012 elections called for unity among the leaders elected, saying without unity there is no good leadership.

He said party members must show respect to each other whether young or old in order to build a strong and united party towards the 2016 elections.

Mr Ayariga pointed out that Ghanaians are tired of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and therefore need a change and the PNC has positioned itself well enough to attract Ghanaians and take advantage of the situation.

He noted that the two major parties are strong because the members are willing to commit their personal resources to help build their party.

He therefore appealed to members of the PNC to do the same to build a stronger party that would wrestle power from the NPP and NDC to solve the numerous challenges facing the country.

Mr Bernard Mornah, PNC General Secretary said the party started from the Region and was reborn in 1992 and that since then no major political activity took place in the region, hence the reason to host this years' National Delegates Congress in the area.

Explaining the theme: 'Gaining Strength from Home,' Mr Mornah said strength at home is very important to the success of any political party, hence the need for the PNC to organise itself well at home in order to become attractive to all throughout the country.

Mr Mornah who is also aspiring to become the party's National Chairman said the NDC is struggling to address the numerous challenges that have bedeviled the country while the NPP has proven not to be an alternative choice.

He congratulated the new executives and urged them to work hard to make the party vibrant for Ghanaians to choose come 2016 general election. GNA
