Power Minister--Count Down To December

Feature Article Power Minister--Count Down To December
OCT 14, 2015 LISTEN

"Laughing faces do not mean that there is absence of sorrow ,but it means that. they have the ability to deal with it"- By William Shakespeare.

This describe how Ghanaians have endured the power outages for almost 3 years with no end in sight, as various Ghanaian politicians deceive the public with lies of solving the problem.

The unannounced and interrupted power outages has gained international recognition and the President of Ghana John Mahama in a speech at the United Nations general assembly admitted that the dumsor has slowed growth and development and promised to solve the problem soon .

The Minister for Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor is on record to have assured the President of Ghana, on swearing in that, if he is unable to restore and improve power supply to the good people of Ghana by December 2015 ,he would resign or should be fired.

Since his assurance, very little has been achieved in terms supplying uninterrupted power to even Greater Accra, the Tema Metropolis and the Western region, which has most of the industries. Most of these factories and industries have closed down and workers laid off . Kumasi Polytechnic is at the mercy of thieves and armed robbery because of the outages.

Dr Donkor I have personally started your count down, if Ghanaians have forgotten I have not. My grandmother who was uneducated but very wise once told me the clock never gets tired or sleep, so when you make a promise with a date and time, you better work towards it because the day will come like a thief in the middle of the night.

The lies, deceit and the blame game started with the sector minister , when he attributed the erratic and irresponsible power crisis to the to the inefficient and lazy engineers of the Volta River Authority and he has given them six months to straighten up or be fired. I believe he should fire himself as well as his deputy for lying to Ghanaians

Interestingly, little did he realized that he has less than 90 days to solve the power outages once and for all and am seriously counting on the president to do the diligent if Dr Donkor is unable to deliver on his promise by firing him immediately.

It is on record that the Deputy Minister for Energy , Abu Jinapo , made a false representation to Ghanaians through parliament, that the sector were expecting two power barges in April 2015, to boost or increase the power supply to ease the situation while a permanent solution will follow. What is mind blowing is that, he travelled with a parliamentary select committee on energy to Turkey for the follow up check on these barges. None of these select committee members including those from the opposition party, was able to inform the poor tax paying citizens that the deputy minister was very economical with the truth.

The powers that be started shifting the goal post. Initially they promised Ghanaians the power barges will be delivered in April but when they were caught in their own lies through the company they moved the delivery date to September, then to October this very month.

I read a piece in Starrfmonline.com, on Monday October 10 that the power barges will now be delivered in November and they were on the high seas.

Surprisingly this was announced by a staff member of the rotten glidco company ,no other news media carried the story and since then the story has been removed. We all know what has taken place. The media house has either been compromised or forced to withdraw the story.

If both the minister and the deputy were men of integrity and honorable as they claim, they should have resigned after the company exposed their lies. But Ghana is a country where no minister does wrong and even if they do they will be reassigned to the presidency and that's one reason its easy for the politicians to lie to Ghanaians very boldly without any fear.

It as not until a representative of the manufacturing company blew the cover of lies by the deputy minister by informing the whole country that they never promise to deliver the barges by the date promised the country. These are some my reasons why I have very little respect for the Ghanaian parliamentarians with no exception and refuse to call any of them honorable because they lack integrity and love for the people they represent and the country as a whole. They strive and use al kinds of means to get elected only to find a way of enriching themselves at the expense of the electorates.

Dr Donkor, there has not been any significant improvement in the interrupted and outrageous power outages which has bedeviled the country for the last three years.

Ghanaians need more than just cheap political talk with no action to back it. The politics of the dumsor is enough and its about time we hold our political leadership accountable for this situation which has led to the closing of factories ,industries and a whole lot of private businesses . Workers have been laid off , thereby making their situation worst with the already existing economic hardship.

I remember in May this year, a few bold and defiant actors and actress led by Yvonne and Lydia Forson decided to organize a vigil to make the government aware. of the effects of the erratic power outages , that it was collapsing the industry and the Ghanaian businesses at large.

The reaction of the government ministers, functionaries and the paid communicators was shocking . These organizers who were political novice and wore no political party t shirts were attacked starting from both the minister and his deputy, presidential staffer Halidu Haruna ,one of the vice chairperson Samuel Ofosu Ampofo,,the former chief of staff under Rawlings Ato Dadzie,, and failed parliamentary aspirant Gilbert Aggrey alias Abeiku Santana .

The rest are Sacked Former Deputy Ashanti Regional, Yamin, Ras Mubarak, Koku Anyidoho, Appiah Stadium and the Board chairman of VRA and former Ambassador Lee Ocran all one way or the other insulted the organizers just because they were organizing the vigil. There was some machinations and scheming by government to deny them the needed permit for the event.

This was their constitutional right and not a privilege.

Mr Power Minister, am therefore counting down to December to ensure that if majority of the people in Ghana have forgotten that you promised on oath to the president that if by December you have not been able to fix the power crisis you should be fire. been delivered. I hope that the official of glidco said was the honest truth ,otherwise all of you should be sent packing,

Like I said laughing faces does not mean absence of sorrow . Ghanaians have endure the power crisis for far too long they deserve some relief. So resign or the president should fire you like you told all Ghanaians.

This is very shameful and disgraceful, whilst listening to a radio program on Ash FM, the Power Minister in an interview said any citizen who is interested in knowing the exact date the dumsor would end should direct their questions to the president John Mahama.

He stated emphatically that he never promised Ghanaians the power outages would end under his watch. What a shame .

The record and audio are there for him to verify what he said . First in an interview with Elton Brobbey of Joy FM and then at the inauguration of the new board, he emphasized that by January 2016 if there is still load shedding I will not be the minister.
