The Mayor of Accra on Sunday launched his campaign ahead of the November 7 parliamentary primaries of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), with endorsement from some bigwigs of the party.

Greater Accra Regional Minister, Joseph Nii Afotey-Agbo and his Deputy Isaac Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, the Mayor of Tema, Isaac Ashai Odamtten and former Member of Parliament (MP) for Odododiodo, Tackey Komey, among others, backed the candidature of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) boss at the event.

They therefore urged the party's members in the constituency to vote for Mr. Vanderpuije come November 7.

Mr. Afotey-Agbo, addressing the gathering at the Mamprobi Girls School, indicated that the ruling government needs a personality like Mr. Vanderpuije on the floor of parliament.

'We all need him on the floor of parliament; he is a great asset to the NDC.

The Tourism Minister, on her part, pointed out that the mayor has served Accra residents exceptionally during his tenure, adding that the area would experience tangible development if he is given the nod.

The former Mayor of Accra, Ishmeal Aryeetey said Mr. Vanderpuije 'has done a great job by accepting to contest in race for the Ablekuma South and so must be given the nod.

Mr. Vanderpuije, in his address to the jubilant supporters who converged on the Mamprobi Girls School Park, reiterated that his decision to vie for the seat was in direct response to the calls from the constituents to effectively represent them in parliament.

He vowed to campaign vigorously to win the seat for the NDC.

Commenting on his achievement as the Mayor of Accra, Mr. Vanderpuije stated that he had spearheaded developmental projects in the nation's capital.

He stated that he succeeded in ending the shift system in public schools in the metropolis through the construction of the Millennium City schools and improved sanitation in the city.

NPP's Incompetence
He pledged his support for President John Mahama in the 2016 general elections, urging Ghanaians to vote massively for the NDC.

He claimed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under former President Kufour was highly incompetent and that Ghanaians reject them again in the 2016 elections.

According to him, the NPP had eight years in office but failed woefully to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

He said under the Mahama administration Ghanaians have seen massive developmental projects across all sectors of the nation's economy.
