Gbadagbakope (V/R), Oct. 13, GNA - Mr Maxwell Lukutor, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Aspirant for South Tongu Constituency, has constructed a footbridge over an inlet of the Volta Lake connecting the Gbadagbakope and Gamenu communities.

The river is said to have cut off the two fishing communities when it swells, halting school and commercial activities temporarily.

About two years ago, two young men, who were reportedly carrying a dead body to a morgue in Sogakope, slipped through a wooden plank being used as bridge, and fell into the river with the corpse.

Mr Lukutor in a brief to reporters said that story moved him to contract engineers to fix a steel bridge valued at GH¢5,000.00 over the river for the communities to access social amenities in and around the District capital with some ease.

He stated, 'My calling is communal service, my interest is to see people happy. At least our people here can go to hospitals and schools with no fear of getting drowned'.

Mr Lukutor said he was developing a map of the socio-economic potentials of the area to market the Constituency to create job opportunities.

He said his focus was on making life a bit comfortable for the less privileged in the communities and 'positioning' the youth to be of service to their communities.

Mr Lukutor said he knew that Central Government and the district assembly could not address all the developmental challenges in the district, therefore, was lobbying natives and friends abroad to invest in the area.

Mr Lukutor lost the last parliamentary primary to Mr Kobla Mensah Woyome, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Constituency, and he is hoping to beat Mr Woyome and three others in the November 7, contest to become his party's candidate for the 2016 Parliamentary Election.
