Wife of Samuel Nuamah demands investigative report of husband's death

The wife of the Ghanaian Times reporter who died in an accident whilst covering the president is demanding for the investigative report on the death of her husband.

Lilian Nuamah wants the police report on the investigation made public to provide a learning curve for posterity and to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.

Samuel Nuamah met his untimely death in August when the bus he was travelling in as part of a presidential convoy was involved in an accident.

There has been some controversy surrounding the circumstances of his death. Critics have questioned the physical integrity of the vehicle provided for the presidential press corps to cover presidential activities.

On the day of the accident, members of the press corps were reported to have raised issues about the quality of the driver.

They were said to have had two earlier close shaves with death before they finally got involved in the fatal accident at Doryumu junction in the Shai Hills area.

But spokespersons of government including the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah have defended the quality of transportation provided to the journalists.

Even though the Chief of Staff was not in the vehicle on the day he denied reports that the driver had been reckless.

Ghana Journalists Association president Affail Monney also supported the secondary opinion of the Chief of Staff in an interview with Joy News' Manasseh Azure-Awuni.

Police have since begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident but has yet to make the report available.

Wife of deceased Lilian Nuamah told Joy News she has been following up on the report but all to no avail.

"It is been a while but has not heard anything. "I don't want this accident happening again," she said, a reason why she wants the report of the accident to be made available.

"I want conditions to be changed. This time it was my husband. we don't know who it will be next," she said.

Lilian Nuamah was even more worried when she heard of another accident, Monday evening, involving a press corps attending a function by the president.

"I went back memory lane," she said. She wants the report to be made available before going back to school in the US.

The police are meanwhile unavailable for comment.
