Ghanaian food and beverage producer, Twellium Industrial Company Limited, is fighting to protect its drink brand from a hoax making rounds on social media platforms.

It has been rumoured that a certain “Rush” juice, purportedly shipped into Ghana from Nigeria, has killed some people because it contained a poisonous chemical.

Twellium has however dispelled the speculations, stating that its “Rush Energy Drink” is not contaminated but healthy for human health.

“Rush Energy Drink is everywhere; I’ll say that it’s the leading energy drink in Ghana now… and I don’t know if a competitor or any other person wants to tarnish our image that is why they came out with such speculation,” said Emelia Gyasi, Assistant Marketing Manager of Twellium Industries.

In the two years of existence, Twellium has engaged over 550 Ghanaians, both casual and non casual workers in Accra and branches in Tamale, Takoradi, Kumasi and other regions in Ghana.

The company has also engaged the services of more than 1000 distributors across the country.

“We have an ultra modern laboratory with very well educated quality control experts,” said Mohammed Kwawtharani, General Manager of Twellium. “We are expanding our production line; We are installing the first can production machine in Ghana and further expand our employee database”.

According to Ms. Gyasi, Rush Energy Drink product is produced in Ghana and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority and the Food and Drugs Authority for consumption in the country.

“The product is healthy and wholesome and anyone can consume it; indeed it’s proudly made in Ghana so they should not have any fears when they want to consume it,” she said.

Ms. Gyasi told Luv Biz the speculation initially had a negative effect on sales but the situation has improved after the company debunked the hoax.
