Students must be trained to help kick out corruption

Accra, Oct. 10, GNA - Professor Kwame Boasiako Omane- Antwi, Vice Rector and Dean of Pentecost University College Graduate School says instilling disciplinary attitude in students are among measures to kick out corruption in the country.

He said it is about time to teach values and morals to inspire and remind students across the country the need to acquire an upright mind, to build their commitment towards national development.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the sideline of the launch of the University College's 10th Anniversary Celebration in Accra, Prof Omane-Antwi said this has been the agenda of the PUC over the past decade.

He expressed the need for the revision of the educational system within the tertiary sector specifically from a theory based to a vocational based training to close the gap between unemployment deficits against the number students who graduate, yearly.

Prof Omane- Antwi said students must be trained to be able to create employment for themselves, whereas, the culture of seeking for 'white colour jobs' should be abolished.

'There is a need to train and introduce students to entrepreneurship related programmes.'

Events to mark the celebration from October to December include a health walk, blood donation exercise and a medical outreach in October.

A clean -up exercise, public lecture one and an anniversary service in November; and public lecture two, fundraising dinner, alumni homecoming/ musical concert, graduation and as well climax of the celebration with a thanksgiving service in December

Ten years ago the leadership of the Church of Pentecost, under the Chairmanship of Apostle Dr Michael Kwabena Ntumy took a courageous and visionary decision to establish the University College, upgrading it from the Pentecost Bible College.

The overarching aim was to produce men and women who work with hands, heads and hearts to the glory of God; the vision was to empower students to serve their own generation and posterity with integrity and the fear of God.

The Pentecost University College started with seven programmes in the 2003/2004 academic year, today, it runs 32 programmes comprising Certificate, Professional, Undergraduate and Graduate programmes.

These programmes have duly accredited by the National Accreditation Board, additionally, the University College is affiliated to the University of Ghana, Legon and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
