OCT 9, 2015 LISTEN

Nhyira Fm's investigative journalist, Ohemeng Tawiah, is one the participants at this year's Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Lillehammer, Norway.

Over 900 journalists from 121 countries globally are attending the 9th edition of this biennial event scheduled for 8-11 th October, 2015.

GIJC is widely acknowledged for the immense contribution it has made to the global expansion of investigative reporting over the past ten years.

Over 50 speakers are expected to address participants on critical investigative reporting topics, with others sharing experiences in their work.

Ohemeng’s merited invitation to the prestigious GIJC came through a fellowship programme run by the Norwegian Foundation for Investigative Journalism (SKUP), local organizers of the conference.

As a fellow of SKUP, he will have access to the conference venue at the plush Radisson Blu Hotel which is expected to host over 150 seminars and workshops.

Ohemeng Tawiah has over the years maintained his composure of running two investigative projects every year focusing mainly on health, human rights and corruption.

His investigations into operations of Ghana's state transporter, Metro Mass Transit Limited, where buses meant for scraps ‘disappeared’ from depots of the company amid operational and procurement breaches, conflict of interest, among others, was enough ground to set changes in motion in the company. Broadcast and publication of his findings on radio, television and online angered the workers who joined the course of the investigations.

President Mahama was left with no choice but to act, with the dismissal of the Managing Director and his deputy and the dissolution of the Governing Board of the company.

SKUP Executive Director, Jens Egil Heftoy and Board Chairman, Jan Gunnar Furuly, in an invitation letter to Ohemeng stated, “it will be an honour for SKUP and GIJN to have you with us at this event”[Global Investigative Journalism Conference].
