Mampong (Ash), Oct. 09, GNA - The Omanhene of Asante-Mampong, Daasebre Osei Bonsu 11, has called on the Mampong Municipal Assembly to take bold steps to tackle the noise pollution in the area.

He said the excessive noise, especially during the night time, made mostly by churches was becoming a huge bother, intolerable and a major health hazard.

He was speaking at a special session held by the assembly to elect its Presiding Member (PM).

Daasebre Osei-Bonsu said although everybody has the right to freely practice the religion of their choice, things must be done in such a way that, they neither inconvenience nor cause discomfort to other people in the society.

He also complained about the worsening insanitary conditions in the municipality and said the assembly must move to deal with the situation.

It should make sure that sanitation bye-laws it had passed were rigidly enforced - punish offenders to restore sanity.

Daasebre Osei-Bonsu further asked the assembly to work towards improving the street illumination system in Mampong, the municipal capital to enhance security.

The 48-member assembly elected Mr. Joseph Addo, the elected member from Bosomkyekye, as Presiding Member.

He polled 36 votes to beat off the challenge by the immediate past PM, Mr. Stephen Asamoah, who garnered 13 votes. GNA
