Five suspected armed robbers who rob miners at Manso Nkwanta area in the Ashanti region have been nabbed by the Ashanti regional police command.
The suspected robbers, who block roads at the area to attack miner’s who transport their Gold to the cities from sites were arrested in military and police uniforms.
The Ashanti regional police commander Dcop Nathan Kofi Boakye disclosed this in a press briefing in Kumasi.
The suspects Ibrahim Tanko, Kwabena Owusu, Ernest Oware, Osberg Amoako and Justice Botway were arrested on 7 October around 1 pm, attempting to block a road to attack miners coming to Kumasi from Manso Nkwanta at night.
The police, acting upon intelligence intersected and arrested them. Searches conducted on them revealed run pop action gun with five live ammunitions raped in fertilizer sacks and five sets of military uniforms.
The commander advised miners to seek police protection anytime they are transporting their gold for safety.
The police are lacing with the communities to mount community watch volunteers to support the police fight against crime.
He assured the police are doing every possible best to protect the life of individuals in the region.
