Sunyani, Oct. 8, GNA - A 40-year old Sunyani-based legal practitioner and government appointee, Mr. Apraku Nketia, was on Tuesday elected as the Presiding Member (PM) of the Sunyani Municipal Assembly.
Mr. Nketia, who was the only candidate for the position, received 40 votes with 10 against, out of the total number of 50 Assembly-Members, comprising 34 elected and 16 government appointees.
The election, conducted under the 'Yes' and 'No' procedure, was supervised by some officials from the Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Nketia thanked the Assembly Members for electing him, and promised to lead the Assembly to function effectively within the legal framework of the District Assembly Concept.
