Buipe (NR), Oct. 08 GNA - Mr Mumuni Shiraz Ibn Yacin, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Gonja in the Northern Region has called on the business community to take advantage of investments opportunities and invest in the District.

He said the District had the potential to be the hub of business destination including aqua culture because of the presence of the White and Black Volta rivers, which provides enabling environment for investments and called on the business community to relocate to the area.

He said the White Volta had already attracted some investments such as the Arima Farms and Indian Company, the Buipe and Yapei irrigation projects and that cage fish farming was also a promising venture worth investing.

Mr Yacin made the call in Buipe during the inauguration of the Assembly where 40 Assembly Members were sworn-in by Mr Augustine Essah, a Tamale Magistrate Court judge for a four year term.

The Assembly also elected Mr Iddrisu Ibrahim as the Presiding Member to steer affairs during their tenure.

Mr Yacin said the Assembly was ready to help or partner investors to acquire land through the chiefs for investments especially in areas of agriculture, hospitality, aqua culture, health and other areas, which would give employment to the youth.

He appealed to the assembly members to come together with useful ideas for the district's development saying, 'We must hit the ground running and we must do all we can to bridge the development gap between our infant district and the older ones'.

He stressed the need for hard work to push the development agenda of the district forward to alleviate poverty, disease and malnutrition.

Madam Anita Desoso, a former National Women's Organizer of the NDC who inaugurated the assembly advised the Town and Country Planning units of the assemblies to do their work professionally to stop haphazard buildings.

She said haphazard infrastructure development in the country was worrisome, which needed the concerted effort of members of the assemblies, Town and Country Planning and the Survey Departments to collaborate to solve the problem.

Madam Desoso said due to haphazard building and planning in some parts of the country, there were usually flooding and outbreaks of communicable diseases and that there was the need to address the problem once and for all.

She appealed to the Assembly members to support the District Chief Executive (DCE) to push the development agenda of the District forward to raise the living standards of the people.

She advised the Assembly to device ways of improving on its revenue mobilization for development other than the over reliance on the District Assemblies' Common Fund (DACF).
