Zabzugu (N/R), Oct. 8, GNA - Mr Kofi Adams, Deputy National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress, has asked the newly inaugurated assembly members to let good sanitation be their watchword.

He said one insanitary practice by any member of the society could have a rippling effect on the socio-economic well being of the people, since it could trigger cholera and other fatal consequences.

Mr Adams made the request when he represented President John Dramani Mahama at the inauguration of Zabzugu District Assembly in the Northern Region.

He said the District Assembly concept was built on the grassroots democracy introduced by the government to boost local governance by bringing the decision making process to the door steps of the people, to facilitate development.

Mr Adams acknowledged the poor road network in the district and gave the assurance that he would draw government's attention to fix the problem.

He commended the district for the prevailing peace and hailed the local traditional authorities for the feat.

Mr Issifu Alidu Laa- Bandow, District Chief Executive said the new assembly members comprise 15 elected members representing 70 per cent of the numbers and seven government appointees representing 30 per cent.

He said the work of the district assembly requires a great deal of collaboration between members, management and heads of department to help accelerate development.

'We all own this assembly and we have the responsibility to protect and support it to function effectively,' he said.
