Ho Rotary Club launches 'Family Health Days'

Ho, Oct. 07, GNA - Rotary Club of Ho on Wednesday launched, 'Rotary Family Health Days' in Ho to provide free health screening for 10,000 people.

The three day outreach on the theme, 'Healthy Families, Healthy Communities,' would have people screened of HIV, Tuberculosis, Diabetes, Blood Pressure, Measles and Poliomyelitis.

Male and female condoms, Vitamin 'A' supplements, bed nets and de-wormers would also be given to people at ten sites in the Ho municipality.

The locations are, Ho Central Mosque, Depot Down, Somey Down, Deme, Anlokordzi.

The rest are Ahoe Central Market, Sokode Lokoe, Heve Atikume, Anagokordzi and Ho main lorry Park

Madan Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister in a speech, read on her behalf said family health was critical to 'national wealth creation' and commended Ho Rotary Club for the foresight.

She said government was extending health services and facilities to communities throughout the country and welcomed Rotary's efforts at extending health services to the doorstep of the people.

Dr. Joseph Teye Nuertey, Volta Regional Director of Health Services in a speech read for him said the Region was recording low performance levels in antenatal and adolescent services, and supervised deliveries and hoped Rotary Club could help address the challenges.

Madam Susan Kudjoe, President, Ho Rotary Club, said the focus of the Club was on disease prevention and control among others and commended District 7730, USA, for its support for the outreach.

Dr Akwei Addo, Steering Committee Member, National Rotary Family Health Days, said the event was taking place in the Volta, Eastern, Central and Greater Accra regions simultaneously.
