Zebilla (U/E) Oct. 8, GNA - The Bawku West District Director of Education, Madam Patricia Ayikor, has expressed concern over the election of teachers into District Assemblies, saying they would be missing classes and reducing contact hours with pupils.

Madam Ayikor, who chaired the inaugural ceremony of the Bawku West Assembly Members, at Zebilla, expressed her displeasure about the situation but entreated the teachers not to concentrate too much on their duties as assembly members at the expense of their students and pupils.

The Director also charged the Assembly members to ensure that girls in the District were not used for 'by day', that is, daily labour, for which they are paid at the end of the day, as it was currently happening at the gold mining areas and on people's farms.

She said poor school attendance accounted for the low female human resource in the District as was evident even among the 34 elected Assembly Members, as no woman was among them.

The ceremony was attended by both the current and past Members of Parliament for the area, Mr Cletus Avoka and Mr John Ndebugri.

Also present were the current and past District Chief Executives of the area, Regional and District Directors, and heads of departments. GNA
