Accra, Oct. 7, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Kwesi Boateng, a businessman, into police custody for possessing 24 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He pleaded not guilty and would reappear before the Court on October 20.

Prosecuting Assistant Commissioner of Police Moses Atibilla told the Court that on September 26, the police had a tip off that some people were dealing in dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a house at Awoshie, a Suburb of Accra.

He said Detective Chief Inspector Cecilia Dwamena, in charge of a team of police officers, moved to the scene with a search warrant.

The prosecution said a search was conducted in the accused person's room and 17 wrappers of suspected Indiana hemp were found in a brown paper and further search in the suspect's car revealed seven wrappers.

He said when the accused was arrested, he claimed ownership of the substance in his caution statement.
