NPP NPP Vice-Chair Sammy Crabbe cornered; sets up 'illegal' fundraising website
OCT 7, 2015 LISTEN

A website set up by NPP Second Vice-Chairman Sammy Crabbe to collect membership data and cash has been gutted with controversy as its legality is called into question.

Sammy Crabbe has been reported as setting up a fraudulent fundraising website promising free credit to subscribers who help to promote the membership recruitment drive.

A statement on the controversial website nppcentre.org says registration can be done by "simply texting first and last names to short code: 1942. The request for a new membership card, however, attracts a fee of GHC 8.00. The Party will receive GHC 3.00 while GHC 5.00 goes to cover the cost of printing the membership card".

But National Treasurer of the opposition party, Abankwa Yeboah claims the funds raised through the membership registration online platform set up by Sammy Crabbe never get to the party.

According to the NPP constitution “it shall be the duty of the Finance Committee to raise funds necessary to finance the operations of the party” and also “report on its activities to the National Chairman”.

A statement posted on the party's website distanced the party from the membership drive

Sammy Crabbe who is not a member of the Finance Committee says the project has been approved by the Committee even though Abankwa Yeboah who is the secretary to the Finance committee says this is not true - the project is not authorized.

Ironically, the platform was outdoored by the NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong - two people have consistently been at loggerheads with the rest of the NPP's national executive.

More soon.
