Kwame Danso, (B/A), Oct 7, GNA - Mr Moses Addai Fofie, the Sene West District Chief Executive on Tuesday appealed to the public to give recognition to and appreciate the roles of assembly members in nation building.

This, he observed, would inspire assembly members to render selfless and dedicated services not only to facilitate development, but deepen the local governance system, and enhance grassroots participation in decision making processes.

Mr Addai made the appeal at the inauguration of 29 Assembly members at Kwame-Danso in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

He noted with concern that respect and dignity accorded to assembly members in the olden days had diminished, a situation, which according to the Chief Executive had waned the interest of competent people to contest and represent their constituents at the assembly.

Mr Addai emphasized that the district assembly concept was devoid of partisan politics, and appealed to government appointees and elected assembly members to guard against partisan politics in all deliberations at the Assembly.

Mr Vincent Oppong-Asamoah, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, entreated the Assembly members to assist the District Chief Executive towards the development of the District.

He asked them to unite and criticize constructively in tackling the diverse problems hindering development in the area.

Justice Edward Essel, a District Magistrate, took the 29 assembly members through the oath of office, secrecy and allegiance.

In a related development, Mr Kofi Baah, the Sene East Chief Executive has advised the Assembly members to ensure that they interacted regularly with their constituents.

This, he noted, would enable them to identify the immediate needs of the local people and bring it to the Assembly for attention.

Mr Baah gave the advice at the inauguration of the 30-member assembly at Kajaji, the district capital.

He noted that District Assembly could not execute development projects in local communities without the contribution and knowledge of the assembly members.

Mr Baah advised the Assembly members to ensure that they cooperate and respect the contributions of each other in decision making processes.

Mr John Alexander Ackon, the Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, who represented President John Dramani Mahama, asked the Assembly members to work in harmony with the District Chief Executive to promote development.
