Twenty-year old shoemaker remanded for robbery

Kumasi, Oct 7, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded a 20-year old man into prison custody, for allegedly robbing a driver of his mobile phones and an amount all valued at GH¢880.00.

Umar Habibu, a shoemaker, residing at Aboabo Number Two whose plea was not taken, is to re-appear in court on October 20.

Giving the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Felix Akowuah, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Ansah that the complainant, Yussif Issaka, is a driver and a resident of Adukrom, a suburb in Kumasi.

On June 23, at about 0100 hours, Habibu together with three others now at large, armed with cutlasses broke into Issaka's room.

Chief Inspector Akowuah said the armed men attacked and subjected Issaka to severe beatings.

In the process, they robbed him of a cash of GH¢530.00, a Samsung Galaxy X1 mobile phone valued at GH¢200.00, and a Huawei mobile phone valued at GH¢150.00.

That same day, at about 1545hours at Adukrom, Issaka spotted Habibu and raised an alarm as one of those who robbed him.

Habibu was arrested and handed over to the police.
In his caution statement, Habibu denied committing the offence.

Meanwhile, police investigations are on-going.
