Ghana will draw from OECD's best practices - President Mahama

Paris (France), Oct. 7, GNA - President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday gave the assurance that his administration would draw more experience from the best practices of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the coming years.

He said Ghana was already carrying out tax policy reforms and that the signing on to the organization would enhance the country's skills to step up revenue generation.

President Mahama who was speaking in an interview with Journalists in Paris after signing Ghana onto the OECD, said Ghana had over the years developed a healthy partnership with the Organisation, and that joining the group would further strengthen that relationship.

President Mahama said government would improve financial management to stabilize the nation's economy, adding that the OECD had experts who could be relied on for the needed transformation.

On the maritime border dispute with the Ivory Coast, President Mahama said the disagreements were not tantamount to war between the two neighbours.

"We are both members of the Economic Community of West African States and share common goals and values, in addition to the common social and cultural values we share in our sub-region."

He said between the governments and even at the private level, the relations were solid.

Boundary disputes, President Mahama noted, were not peculiar to Ghana alone, explaining that countries had always found amicable ways of settling their issues.

President Mahama said Ghana was focused on leveraging her development agenda to make the citizenry comfortable and was therefore not detracted by such disagreements.

Ghana joins the OECD as the 50th member worldwide and the ninth on the African continent.
