President John Mahama has expressed concern about the steady degradation of the environment particularly environmental sanitation and waste management and appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s) to find solution.

This was contained in the President’s address read on his behalf by Dr. Victor Asare Gyampo, the Deputy Minister of Health during the inauguration of the Sekyere Central District Assembly at Nsuta last Tuesday.

The President cautioned the Town and Country Planning Department, the Lands Commission and the Survey Department to abide by the rules and regulations of their profession concerning the allocation of plots and ensure that these plots are developed according to their designated land use in order to avoid the danger of flooding and the accompanying loss of lives and properties anytime it rains.

He advised MMDA’s to generate the needed revenue and stop over-reliance on District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) and other central government releases.

For the third consecutive time, the 41 Assembly Members elected Mr. Ebenezer Afoakwa Sekyere as the Presiding Member. He pulled 32 out of the 39 members present and voting whiles his main challenger Mr. Richard Oppong had 7.

The former Assembly Members appealed to the District Chief Executive Mr. Ebenezer Akuoko Frimpong and the Presiding Member to ensure that their ex-gratia is paid to them without further delay.
