Four host communities of Iduapriem mine have benefitted from educational and sanitary facilities from the Iduapriem Community Trust Fund. This include a Junior High School (JHS) classroom block and Sanitary Facilities at Abompuniso, Kitchen and Sanitary facilities for New Techiman, Early Childhood Development Centre, 16-seater Aqua privy toilet facility at Pepesa and the Rehabilitation of three toilet facilities at Teberebie all estimated at GH₵434,469.00.

Addressing the ceremony, chairman of the Iduapriem Community Trust Fund, Professor Newton Amegbey said the provision of JHS will fill the gap as Iduapriem Mine complements the efforts of government in education which is evident in all projects handed over to the mine’s host communities. He however urged communities benefiting from the sanitary facilities to cultivate the culture of maintenance to ensure that the facilities live long to serve their purposes of intent as well as to improve sanitation and hygiene.

African Mining Services (AMS) contactors on the Mine provided for all the furniture (dual desk, chairs, tables for teachers, cupboards and staff common room chairs) estimated at Thirty-Thousand Ghana cedis for the school project. The Human Resourses Manager of AMS, Jerry Fynn who represented the Managing Director of AMS said they will continuously partner the Iduapriem mine in its social investment projects as their contribution in reaching out to the communities.

Emmanuel Baidoo is the Senior Manager- Sustainability for AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem. “The Mine will continue to work closely with our communities and the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly to ensure that our communities have a sustainable future. He added that over the years, Iduapriem mine has provided its cherished communities access to improved health care, water and sanitation, educational facilities stressing that the commissioning of the Trust Fund projects is a testament to the support the Mine give to its communities.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Municipal Assembly Mrs Christina Kobbina pledged that her outfit will work assiduously with the Municipal Education Office to ensure that teachers are soon posted to the school for academic work to begin.

Since its establishment, the Iduapriem Community Trust Fund has made remarkable achievement which is an attestation that AngloGold Ashanti is committed to leave its communities better off. AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine launched the Community Trust Fund in September 2012 to support the long term sustainable development of the communities in which it operates.
