A peace campaigner, Chirstopher Owusu Marfo, also known as Ghanaba, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to exhibit transparency in the discharge of their duties especially regarding the demand for a new voter register.

He said the call for the current voters' register to be replaced with a new one is in the right direction, as it will afford all political parties an equal platform to operate during elections.

'I believe that all the contesting political parties in the country should have an equal platform to operate during elections so that Ghanaians can easily and freely make their best political choices,' he said in a letter to the EC concerning the 2016 elections.

He said the low turnout in the last district assembly elections was as a result of the brouhaha concerning the demand for a new voters' register.

'Ghanaians are now in a dilemma; hence the low turnout in the last District Assembly elections. If care is not taken, the 2016 general elections will record worse results,' he said.

He therefore reiterated his call for the EC to be transparent and allow the fear of God to guide them to professionally conduct credible and peaceful elections.

Ghanaba has over the past years embarked on a nationwide peace walk to preach the message of peaceful elections.

So far the lone peace walker has voluntarily visited not less than one thousand towns in the country and has also been able to voluntarily hold peace and unity programmes with over three hundred and fifty Muslim and Christian congregations.

His latest peace campaign activity was in the Eastern Region where he delivered a peace and unity message at the Holy Feast of Terbanacles at Ottakrom.
