Accra, Oct. 6, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced two persons to 42 years imprisonment in hard labour for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The convicts, Ababire Macday, a student and Simon Sowah, a mason would serve 21 years each for conspiracy and 21 years for robbery, all to run concurrently.

The court convicted the two on their own plea.
Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kwaku Bempah told the court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh that the complainant in the case is a police personnel.

He said on September 3 at about 1:30am, the complainant was on an election duty at Tamale and left her children behind.

He said convicts with the intent to rob, armed themselves with locally manufactured pistols, scaled the wall into complainant's house.

The prosecution said they broke the main door together with the burglar proof, entered the room, threatened the four children with the pistols and robbed them of a Samsung laptop, a digital camera, a barbering machine and cash of GH₵ 3,800.

DSP Bempah said the convicts together with two others now at large were captured unknowingly by a CCTV camera fixed by the co-tenant.

He said Macday was later identified in the video and the case was reported by the complainant, who arrived in Accra on the Morning of the incident.

He said Macday was caught on September 21 at the premises of Kingsway International Worship Centre, a church located at Nungua barrier stealing a car battery.

'The convict was subsequently bought to the police station and identified by victims as one of the armed robbers, who attacked them and rob them,' he added.

He said during interrogation Macday readily admitted the offence and also mentioned Simon and others at large as accomplices.

The convict later led police to arrest Simon, who also admitted the offence when cautioned and later led the police to retrieve one of the locally manufactured pistols and one foreign made pistol from his house. GNA
