GCAA and Starbow react to Tamale Airport accident

Accra, Oct.6, GNA - A Starbow airline flight, over-shot the runway on landing at the Tamale airport on Tuesday, at 08:31 hours.

The aircraft, a British Aerospace 146 jet with flight number 110, was from Accra, and carried 76 passengers.

A statement from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in Accra and copied to the Ghana News Agency, says no casualties have been recorded from the incident.

It said the GCAA had dispatched a team of aviation safety inspectors to Tamale, to conduct investigations into the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, operations at the Tamale Airport have not been interrupted, and air traffic remains opened, the statement said.

It said updates on the incident would be made available 'as and when information is available'.

The statement asked the public to contact telephone number 0302776171 for any clarification on the incident.

Meanwhile management of Starbow flight said its Starbow'sBAe aircraft with registration 9GSBB went through the barricade at the end of the Tamale runway and stopped.

'It is noteworthy that, both the crew and the passengers were disembarked safely via the stairs,' a statement issued in Accra by Mr James Eric Antwi, Chief Executive Officer said.

'Our sincere concern goes out to all of the passengers, friends and families involved. We are still gathering the facts concerning the event. Starbow is cooperating fully with the Authorities in charge.
