The workshop on cyber space security has brought together high-profile speakers in internet and its security to generate discussions and identify solutions with focus on Africa.

The first ever symposium on cyber space seeks to address issues of web defacement incident handling process and digital forensic in the incident handling process with focus on Africa.

Incident response and security industry professionals were brought together to discuss and share information among members about vulnerabilities, incidents, tools and other issues that affect the operation of incident response and security teams.

The two-day event was jointly organized by the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams [FIRST] and Africa Computer Emergency Response Teams [AfricaCERT] in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication was under the theme, “Joining Forces to Promote Cyber security in Africa.”

The Deputy Minister of Communication, Samuel Ato Forson said there are efforts to tackle the cyber security challenges in Africa at the national level, public, private sector and individual level.

He however noted that there are several inconsistencies that make it difficult for the continent as a whole to present a united front against cyber security issues considering the cost involved.

According to him, Ghana is putting in place a national framework to guide the country in dealing with cyber security incidences.

“In July this year, a validation workshop for our draft cyber security policy and strategy was held to prepare document for government to approve for implementation,” he stated.

He added that Ghana has established a national Computer Incidents Response Team [CERT-GH] which has successfully restored eleven government websites hacked in January 2015.

The sector Minister indicated that more cooperate effort is needed between governments, security agencies, IT professionals, public sector, private sector to align laws, capacity building and policies in order to provide a lasting solution for the whole continent.
