Works on Educational materials, assorted text books, teaching aids and furniture worth thousands of Pounds is near completion for donation to selected schools at Wumenu in the Adaklu District of the Volta Region to improve standard of Education, and improve standard of living especially the children and youth of Wumenu.

At the familiarization tour to the site to have first-hand information on the project, the Assistant Registrar in charge of Radio Windy Bay at the University of Education, Winneba, and Coordinator of Wumenu Community Farm Project Collins K. Awuku hinted that the donors to the project (Friends of Wumenu Community Farms) have also planned to establish an agricultural institute in the area to train the youth in agriculture to help them make good use of the fertile land using best practices.

Mr. Awuku said the project when completed would not only improve the standard of Education in the district in particular but also in the Volta Region in general.

The Headmaster of Adaklu Wumenu D/A Basic School, Simon Kudu was grateful for the project and advised that they should speed up the repair work for early donation to the selected schools, adding that his outfit need urgent support to improve teaching and learning in the school.

The farm manager who is in charge of the reconditioning works, Mr. Ampah called on workers at the site to ensure speedy and genuine work, to ensure that the items were donated to the schools on time.

Background to the Project

The Wumenu Community Farm is a brain child of Chief Gift Kofi Amu- Logotse an established and experienced Creative and Performing Artist and Tutor, who also works with Elmwood College of Agriculture (NCG Agric), and Fife Schools of Social Enterprise (Fellow 2005).

The project’s focus is helping the Wumenu Community to develop as a Centre of excellence in best farm practices and also contribute to the cultural and traditional heritage of Africans and Ghanaians in particular true numerous cultural activities in very traditional settings.

Wumenu was identified as a potential hub as far back as 1995 and the vision is still been nurtured and developed to achieve its aims. Chief Amu through TAAC- The African Art Centre one of the projects of FWCF (“Friends of Wumenu Community Farm” SC037724) in Glasgow.

Mobilized some educational materials for distribution to basic schools in the project area in Ghana and also set up a state of the arts library at the project site serve schools and tertiary institutions and training schools in the Adaklu District, Ho Central District which is 10 minutes drive from the Regional Capital-Ho and other adjourning districts.
