Sumbrungu (UE), Oct 6, GNA - Mr George Gamson, one of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary aspirants, contesting for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, has put up seed money of 6,000 Ghana cedis for an educational endowment fund he instituted in all the six zones in the Constituency.

The Aspirant has given each of the zones which include Simbrungu, Sirigu, Bolgatanga North, West, East and South 1,000 Ghana cedis in the interim to constitute educational committees.

He also gave the community members some early maturing maize seeds for cropping.

Addressing a political rally at Sumbrungu, near Bolgatanga, after he had constituted one of the committees in the area and donated 1,000 Ghana cedis cash to the interim committee, the aspirant stressed that one of the challenges confronting the constituents was the payment of school fees for their children.

'As a former assembly man, I experienced that a lot. When it comes to the payment of school fees it is always a problem. I have to settle some of the bills of students to enable them complete their education from my own resources. This prompted me to initiate this move,' he stated.

He said when given the nod, he would lay a strong foundation for the educational endowment fund by lobbying for more funding from development partners and philanthropists to support the growth of the fund for more deprived students to get the opportunity to complete their education.

He gave the assurance that he would revive the president's special initiative on guinea fowl by giving incubators to the communities in the zones and also build their capacities to go into large scale guinea fowl rearing to help improve upon their livelihoods.

On Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), the Aspirant assured the people that he would help by providing thirty boreholes to the communities in the Constituency and also form WASH committees to cater for the maintenance of the facilities.

He mentioned supporting of women groups to go into goat rearing and the formation of credit unions among market women, transport, hairdressers, dressmakers and basket weavers associations to empower them improve upon their livelihoods.

The community members who expressed shock about the aspirant's kind gesture, applauded him and promised to vote for him to do more for them.
