Abetifi,Oct. 6, GNA - Mrs Georgina Opoku, popularly known as Aso, contesting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary in the Abetifi Constituency, has urged NDC members to change the face of politics, by voting for women in the upcoming primaries.

Mrs Opoku, the first female to contest the NDC parliamentary primary in the constituency, urged members of the party to prove that the party was gender-sensitive, and committed to the empowerment of the Ghanaian woman, by voting massively for women contesting the primaries.

She, therefore, appealed to all the card-bearing members in the constituency, to go out and vote massively for her, adding that 'once am through with the primaries, the Abetifi seat would fall for the NDC.

Speaking with the GNA under the 'women's profile project,' Mrs Opoku, a 45-year old fashion designer and a philanthropist, indicated that she had initiated several development projects and programmes, aimed at empowering the youth and the vulnerable in the area.

Key among her philanthropic works is the provision of artificial limbs for young amputees, to enable them live decent and independent lives.

So far, 11 persons in the Kwahu area have benefited from that programme, in addition to about 10 others in other parts of the country.

Mrs Opoku has also initiated a programme in the Kwahu area to provide taxi drivers with simple and comfortable shoes to prevent the use of slippers, 'charle wote' in driving to make the driving business attractive and profitable.

Throwing more light on that project, the aspirant explained that empowerment also meant supporting people who already have livelihoods to enhance their operations to attract others .

The aspirant is also a sports enthusiast. and has sponsored several sporting activities among the youth in the area, to help identify talents to use to foster peace and unity among the people . GNA
