A 2-day-old baby boy delivered over the weekend at the Tamale West Hospital in Tamale in the Northern Region has mysteriously gone missing.

The 27-year-old lactating mother, Limah Addo, who is yet to come to terms with the reality that she has lost her son, has for the past days remained grief-stricken and refused to eat.

Her brother, Agbeko Emmanuel, disclosed that his sister who had been in labour days earlier was referred to the facility where she was delivered of a bouncing baby boy.

After her daughter was discharged, Nuwokpo Limah, 75-year-old mother of the victim, accompanied by a 10-year-old, decided to get a taxicab to take them home.

According to Agbeko Emmanuel, an unknown woman parading at the maternity ward of the hospital as a philanthropist during their stay at the facility offered to help by taking the baby while she rushed to the roadside to get the cab.

On her return, however, the unnamed woman and the baby were nowhere to be found.

Agbeko Emmanuel revealed that the family searched the entire hospital but there was no sign of the so-called philanthropist. The matter was subsequently reported to the Tamale police.

'We searched almost all the bus terminals within the metropolis with the hope of seeing my nephew to no avail,' he added.

The Northern Regional Police Spokesman, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that surveillance had been mounted for the baby thief believed to be in her late 60s.

Meanwhile hospital authorities declined comment on the matter when contacted.

They hinted that management would officially state its position on the matter after an emergency meeting scheduled for yesterday.
