The French government has provided an amount of €37.50 million to finance the second phase of the Kumasi Roads and Drainage Extension Project.

The project also involves the construction of the Lake road/ Oforikrom bypass and the Aboabo drainage works.

The amount paid by the French Development Agency (AfD) is part of bilateral agreement between the two countries

The funding amount coincides with a visit to France by Ghana's President John Mahama. The two met on Monday at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

The French President Francois Hollande lauded President John Mahama for helping bring stability to the West African sub-region during his tenure as Chair of ECOWAS.

He singled out his Ghanaian counterpart for praise for the meticulous way in which he addressed the coup situation in Burkina Faso late last year as well as his contribution to the sub-region's management of the Ebola outbreak which claimed thousands of lives.

During his tenure as chair of ECOWAS, President Mahama also supervised peaceful elections in Nigeria and Togo before he handed over to Senegal's Macky Sall.

The two leaders who were meeting for the second time since both came into power also discussed the security situation in the West African subregion, the Economic Partnership Agreement and French support for development projects in Ghana.
