Tema, Oct 5, GNA - Nii Adjei Kraku II, the Paramount Chief of Tema, has advised Ghanaians not to politicise the National Sanitation Day Exercise.

He said Ghanaians must bear in mind that filth and communicable diseases did not know political colours but affected all, irrespective of political affiliation.

The Tema Mantse gave the advice when he joined officials of the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to mark this month's National Sanitation Day clean up exercise.

The Greater Accra Region's exercise was held in Tema in preparations towards the 2015 Homogeneous (HOMO FEST) celebration.

The Tema Mantse, therefore, asked residents to fully embrace the exercise to derive its health benefits.

Mr Isaac Nii Djanmah Vanderpuye, the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, said the exercise was done in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Arts to create awareness towards the upcoming Homofest.

Mr Vanderpuye said in the near future, people who refused to participate in the NSD exercise would be prosecuted.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, thanked participants and reminded others to use the day to clean their immediate

surroundings instead of waiting for the Assembly to do so.

He explained that residents should not wait for the implementation of laws to compel them to exercise their civic responsibilities, such as participating in the cleanup exercises.

Dr Joel Sonne, the Director of Project at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the Homofest would climax the celebrations of all festivals in Greater Accra Region.

Dr Sonne said the celebration would be organised with the help of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, and the 16 district assemblies in the region.

Some of the lined up programmes for celebration include float, colloquium, exhibition of works and investments by the Assemblies, food competition and Durbar. GNA
