Campaign for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2016 general elections has commenced within Zongo communities across the country.

This comes with the official launch of the new Zongo group.

Dubbed: 'Zongo For Change' and launched on Wednesday at Nima in Accra, the group is poised to canvass votes for the NPP at the grassroots level during the crucial elections in 2016.

President of Zongo for Change, Salihu Yahaya Bo speaking at the launch, stated that the group shall do all it takes to secure more votes for Nana Akuffo Addo, the 2016 Presidential flagbearer of the NPP in Zongo communities nationwide.

According to him, 'we will move from house to house, room to room, and mosques to mosques, to tell the people that the NPP is ready to lead the country.'

He said a government formed in January 2017 that is not of NPP would mean more devastation for Ghanaians.

This he claimed, was because Ghanaians have suffered for a long time under the ruling NDC government and continue to do so and (Ghanaians) are now seriously yearning for a government of the NPP to salvage them from the incompetence of the NDC.

He stated emphatically that NDC continues to mismanage the resources of the country, making life unbearable for Ghanaians.

The group currently based in the Greater Accra Region has a sizeable membership and is expected to spread across the country very soon.

Vice President of Zongo For Change, Alhaji Kamil Hussain told DAILY GUIDE that the group was going to open more offices in all the 10 regions of the country.

Youth Organizer for Zongo for Change, Abass Osumanu also told DAILY GUIDE that the group shall have regional coordinators to spearhead their mission of securing more votes for the NPP within the Zongo communities which are believed to have about 2 million votes.

Meanwhile, former Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, Alhaji Moctar Bamba in a statement stressed that the NPP needs to take its campaign in the Zongo communities seriously during the 2016 elections.

'We have to go to the Zongos as we did in past elections,' the former Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency, said.

Some regional Nasara Coordinators of the NPP who were present at the launch to lend their support to the group, urged the members of the group to work hard for the fortunes of the party in the coming elections.
