His Excellency, Dr. Kodzo K. Alabo, Ghana's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation & Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) together with his colleague Ambassadors from Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda on Wednesday, September 16, participated in a memorable tree planting ceremony organized by the management, teachers and parents of Moscow International Gymnasium in Moscow.

“I have been made to understand that the tree planting activity we are embarking on today is in keeping with a custom that has been kept by the school over the years that permits it to collaborate effectively with the diplomatic community in the Russian Federation. I could not have been more proud to have my Embassy be associated with this tradition,” Dr. Alabo said at the planting ceremony.

He says that the collaboration attests to the ever growing good relations between two institutions, against the backdrop of the excellent Ghana-Russia relationship, adding “our meeting on this occasion offers my colleague Ambassadors from Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda and me the rare opportunity to interact with many of our young hosts (that is the students) in one place at a time, with the aim of promoting closer ties between our peoples and countries.”

The Ghanaian Ambassador, however, agreed that apart from being symbolic and a great display of love for the land, the tree planting activity would go a long way to leave an indelible mark on the earth. More than ever, it has become very important to preserve the earth as more human activities, such as mining explorations, are depleting the earth of its rich vegetation.

“We in Ghana often say that when the last tree dies the last man dies. This cannot overemphasize the importance of trees in the sustenance of life, including the human race, as you may already know and the need to jealously guard them. We are, therefore, to remind ourselves to be more conscious of protecting our trees in particular and the environment in general,” Dr. Kodzo Alabo said in conclusion.
