PNC CPP, PNC coalition possible in four months - CPP Chairman-elect
SEP 21, 2015 LISTEN

Fresh from his election as Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Prof. Edmund Delle says his party could agree on a coalitiion with ideoloigcal ally the Peoples' National Convention (PNC) - in four months.

He is also keen on roping in the Progressive Peoples' Party (PPP) into a coalition after the party broke away in 2012. The party is led by Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom.

“I have confidence in Dr. Ndoum I trust that he is willing to cooperate with us” he says.

Prof. Edmund Delle wants to finalise the much desired unity of splinter political parties inspired by the ideology of Ghana’s first president Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

He says a merger will be difficult to forge because of the "legal bottlenecks" it could encounter over party colours, logos, and even a name.

But a coalition, which is an agreement to present one candidate for parliamentary and presidential, can be done immediately, he said.

Coalition he says will mean that “where we know CPP is strong then PNC will allow us to take the seat and they will support us” and vice versa.

Dr. Delle maintians, his plan is not ambitious. The talks and expressions of intent to unite have always characterised the relationship between the three parties.

But what is yet to be a new development is an actual unity at any general election. The lack of it has been costly, describes political scientist Dr. Alidu Seidu.

He fears the commitment to achieving unity may not be entirely shared by all Nkrumahist groups.

“Are they really committed to achieving this?” he questioned.

The political scientist believes the CPP and PNC have “great” ideas that can win them the 2016 general elections if they can move age-old talks of unity to an actual one.

Edmund Delle is a dermatologist and health entreprenuer whose Rabito Healthcare Services Limited (RHSL) owns and operates 14 clinics nationwide.
